The Story

Pfc David Crawford, Jr was killed in action on 07 June 1944, serving with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment. On 7 June 1944, the 116th Regimental Combat Team, having reverted to the control of the 29th Infantry Division's commanding general, was ordered to continue clearing the area west of Vierville-sur-Mer. By that night, the regiment had taken up positions west of St. Laurent-sur-Mer and Vierville. While the surviving records do not break these movements down to the level of individual companies or batteries, they reflect the operations the regiment as a whole was carrying out in the day following the invasion. Pfc Crawford was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
