The Story
T/Sgt Ernest Bishop was killed in action on 29 June 1944, serving with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment. On 29 June 1944, the 116th Infantry as a whole was positioned in support of a larger armored effort, as Combat Command "A" of the 3rd Armored Division moved through the regiment's zone with artillery and infantry support to help reduce the Villiers-Fossard salient. Regimental records indicate that one battalion shifted to a position east of La Fossardiere, standing ready to seize its objectives once ordered forward. Because this account reflects the regiment's overall movements that day rather than a specific report on Regimental Troops, it should be read as the broader context in which the unit was operating rather than a direct record of its individual actions. T/Sgt Bishop was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
