The Story
Pfc Henry Koestner was killed in action on 07 June 1944, serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment. On 7 June 1944, the regiment's command post displaced forward into St. Laurent-sur-Mer during the morning hours, moving through severe sniper fire that harassed the area. That afternoon the command post advanced again, taking up a position to the rear of 2nd Battalion, west of the town, as the regiment pressed its advance inland from the invasion beaches. These movements placed Regimental Troops close behind the leading elements of the 115th Infantry as it continued the fight to expand the Normandy beachhead in the days following D-Day. Pfc Koestner was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
