The Story
Sgt Ansel West was killed in action on 16 June 1944, serving with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment. On 16 June 1944, the 2nd Battalion, 115th Infantry moved that afternoon against an enemy strongpoint located about 300 yards north of Hinet and west of St. Clair. The battalion succeeded in clearing the position and then held it defensively through the night. While it cannot be said with certainty what role this particular company played in the action, its men would have been among those engaged in that push and in the overnight defense that followed. Sgt West was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
