The Story
Pfc Basil Rizzo was killed in action on 15 June 1944, serving with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment. On 15 June 1944, the 115th Infantry's Regimental Troops remained in division reserve, holding the position they had occupied without change. According to the regiment's after-action report, this posture continued through the day and into the following morning, with no shift in disposition recorded until the afternoon of 16 June. The unit was thus in a period of relative stand-by, positioned to support the division's operations as needed rather than engaged in active movement or combat on this date. Pfc Rizzo was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
