The Story
Pfc Carey Blunt was killed in action on 08 June 1944, serving with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment. On this day, the 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry, was engaged in a series of defensive repositioning moves in the days following the Normandy landings. In the early morning hours, the battalion shifted to a defensive position west of Formigny to help guard the division's left flank, and later that day it moved again, arriving west of Deaux-Jumeaux at approximately 1800 hours. These movements reflected the battalion's broader effort to secure ground and protect the division as Allied forces consolidated their foothold in France. Pfc Blunt was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
