The Story

Pvt Jack Cimino was killed in action on 30 June 1944, serving with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment. On 30 June 1944, the 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry, as part of the wider regimental movement, took over positions near La Forge that had been held by the 36th Infantry of the 3rd Armored Division. The armored infantry withdrew rearward through the battalion's lines as the relief was carried out, placing the men into positions freshly vacated by the departing unit. The day was marked less by direct combat for the battalion than by this changeover of ground, as it settled into terrain the armored force had just given up. Pvt Cimino was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
