The Story
Pfc Carmen Giglietti was killed in action on 13 June 1944, serving with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment. On 13 June 1944, the 3rd Battalion, 115th Infantry, operating northwest of Couvains, was recorded as recrossing the Elle River at 0600 hours, encountering mostly artillery and mortar fire rather than sustained ground resistance. The battalion pushed forward to establish a position northwest of the town before being detached from the 115th Infantry's control and placed under the command of the 116th Infantry. These movements reflect the battalion's broader operations that day, though the precise activity of individual companies within it was not separately recorded. Pfc Giglietti was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
