Charles A Miner

Cpl Charles Miner was reported missing in action on 07 June 1944, serving with Anti-Tank Company, 175th Infantry Regiment. On 7 June 1944, the 175th Infantry Regiment came ashore at Omaha Beach beginning around 1230 hours, a day after the initial invasion. The 1st and 2nd Battalions landed abreast east of Vierville-sur-Mer, and several landing craft carrying men of the regiment were lost to mines and machine-gun fire as they approached the shore; the remainder of the regiment landed some four hours later near St. Laurent-sur-Mer. From there the regiment pushed inland toward Vierville under scattered mortar and machine-gun fire, then marched in column toward Gruchy, clearing pockets of resistance and snipers along the way. That night, in the vicinity of Gruchy, elements of the regiment came under flanking artillery fire before tanks arrived to help suppress the enemy position and allow the advance to continue. Cpl Miner was reported missing in action that day.
