The Story
Sgt Anthony Urbonas was killed in action on 11 June 1944, serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On 11 June 1944, the 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry, was operating in the vicinity of Lison as part of the ongoing push inland from the Normandy beachhead. That night, the battalion detached Company C to form a separate task force aimed at the Vire River, placing it under the command of the battalion's executive officer, Major Miller. The remainder of the battalion continued its operations near Lison while this detachment carried out its separate mission toward the river. Sgt Urbonas was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
