James A Malloy

Pvt James Malloy was killed in action on 16 June 1944, serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On 16 June 1944, the 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry, was leading the regiment's attack toward La Meauffe, pushing forward against stiff resistance from German defenders. Progress was slowed for a time by suspected minefields blocking the way, which upon closer inspection turned out to be dummy mines laid to delay the advance. Despite this obstacle, the battalion pressed on and succeeded in cutting the road east of La Meauffe by 1:05 in the afternoon, achieving one of the day's key objectives. Pvt Malloy was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
