The Story
Pfc Ralph Ritacco was killed in action on 09 June 1944, serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On 9 June 1944, the 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry, as part of the wider regimental column, reached Isigny by 4:30 in the morning and moved through the city by 7:30. From there the battalion continued forward with the regiment toward Lison, ending the day in the vicinity of La Potelaie. Specific actions of this company within that movement were not separately recorded, but the battalion's advance that day reflects the general push inland from the Normandy beachhead in the days following the invasion. Pfc Ritacco was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
