The Story

Pvt Herman Post, Jr was killed in action on 09 June 1944, serving with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On this day, the 2nd Battalion was sent west from Isigny, together with Company K and a small detachment of three tanks, to seize the village of Hait and secure the nearby bridge over the Vire River, a move meant to protect the regiment's right flank as it pushed inland. The objective was accomplished, bringing that phase of the operation to a close. That afternoon, the battalion turned back east, rejoining the regiment's march toward Lison and continuing the advance alongside the rest of the 175th Infantry. Pvt Post was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
