The Story

Pvt R Walmer was killed in action on 13 June 1944, serving with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On 13 June 1944, 2nd Battalion, 175th Infantry was operating in the vicinity of Lison, where it had pushed toward the Vire River only to meet stiff enemy resistance. At 1205 hours the battalion was forced to recross the river, pulling back under pressure from German positions. During this action, Colonel Good, who had taken command of the group only the night before, went missing and was believed to have been wounded or killed. The fighting that day marked a costly and confused engagement for the battalion as it withdrew back across the Vire. Pvt Walmer was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
