The Story

Pvt Raymond Reed was killed in action on 12 June 1944, serving with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On 12 June 1944, the 175th Infantry maintained its main command post in the vicinity of Lison while directing operations further afield. That evening, at 2200 hours, the regiment dispatched Company G, reinforced with an attached mortar section and machine-gun section, across the Vire River to bolster the task force operating near Montmartin-en-Graignes. Colonel Good, the Regimental Commander, moved forward himself to personally lead this reinforcement group, placing the regiment's senior leadership directly with the troops committed to that action. Pvt Reed was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
