The Story
Pvt Emanuel Brando was killed in action on 09 June 1944, serving with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. On June 9, 1944, the 3rd Battalion moved west from Isigny alongside Company E and a small force of three tanks, tasked with taking the town of Hait and securing the vital bridge over the Vire River. This objective guarded the regiment's right flank, and the battalion accomplished it, bringing the operation's first phase to a close. That afternoon, the battalion rejoined the regiment's march toward Lison, continuing the advance inland from the Normandy coast. Pvt Brando was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
