Donald E Myerly

Cpl Donald Myerly was killed in action on 07 June 1944, serving with Battery B, 110th Field Artillery Battalion. On the evening of 7 June 1944, Battery B of the 110th Field Artillery Battalion was moving through Vierville-sur-Mer behind Headquarters Battery when it was forced to halt partway through the town. Around 2045 hours, enemy artillery fire began landing on the crowded town center where the battery had stopped, mixing with sniper fire and the chaos of civilians, infantry troops, Rangers, and shore engineers all trying to push through the same narrow streets. Several vehicles and two of the battery's 105mm howitzers took direct hits during this shelling, resulting in seventeen casualties. The surviving guns and vehicles were later led south to a position near St-Laurent-sur-Mer, joining Battery C late that night, while the battery's headquarters element remained further south with the battalion command post. Cpl Myerly was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
