The Story
Pvt Jerry Lanzetta was killed in action on 19 June 1944, serving with Company C, 121st Engineer Combat Battalion. On 19 June 1944, near grid 526683, the company took part in a coordinated assault against a fortified enemy strongpoint. Advancing roughly 300 yards under heavy mortar and artillery fire, the men pressed forward before being forced to pull back, ultimately holding a position just slightly ahead of the line from which the attack had begun. The action reflected the intense resistance encountered that day and the difficult, exposed conditions under which the engineers operated alongside the attacking force. Pvt Lanzetta was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
