The Story

Pvt John Cameron was killed in action on 18 June 1944, serving with Company C, 121st Engineer Combat Battalion. On 18 June 1944, the 121st Engineer Combat Battalion was called upon by Division to clear out an enemy sniper position near grid 526683. Two platoons of Company C were sent forward at 1230 hours to handle the task, but they found the resistance too strong to overcome alone. Companies A and B were then ordered up to reinforce the effort, turning what had begun as a small engineer detail into a combined action involving much of the battalion. Pvt Cameron was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
