Henry S Farrar

Pfc Henry Farrar was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with Headquarters Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion. On the morning of June 6, 1944, the 2nd Ranger Battalion went into action in two separate forces. Force A, under Lieutenant Colonel Rudder, was lowered away at 0445 and landed at Pointe du Hoc, where headquarters personnel joined F Company in clearing a pillbox and taking nine prisoners; a command post was set up first in a cave at the base of the cliff and then moved to a shell hole atop it by 0830. Force C, including Companies A and B, lowered away at 0615 and, when the landing at Pointe du Hoc was called off at 0700 as planned, came ashore instead at Omaha Beach alongside the rest of the force. There, a detail from Headquarters Company stayed on the beach to help care for the wounded while the rifle companies re-formed and moved through Vierville-sur-Mer to hold a defensive position for the night. Pfc Farrar was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
