Richardson

Pfc Richardson was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with Company B, 2nd Ranger Battalion. On the morning of June 6, 1944, the company was lowered into landing craft at 0615 as part of Force "C," originally intended for the assault on Pointe du Hoc, but when that landing was called off the men were redirected to Omaha Beach instead. One boatload came under direct fire at 0740, killing the boat and throwing the men into deep water; most made it to shore anyway, though stripped of nearly all their equipment, while an officer and several enlisted men aboard were wounded. The rest of the company touched down shortly after at 0745, still under heavy fire, and a small detachment of six men later linked up with a squad from the sister company to carry out an assigned mission alongside the 5th Ranger Battalion. By day's end the remaining men had reorganized, pushed through the town of Vierville-sur-Mer in reserve, and dug in for the night. Pfc Richardson was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
