William J. Schlarp

Pfc William Schlarp died of wounds on 06 June 1944, serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. On 6 June 1944, the 16th Infantry Regiment came ashore on the Fox Red and Easy Red sectors of Omaha Beach in the first wave, landing around 0635 under heavy fire before pushing inland toward Colleville-sur-Mer. Division records from that day speak of the regiment's progress as a whole rather than singling out the 1st Battalion, noting that the 2nd Battalion had reached and later passed through Colleville-sur-Mer by mid-afternoon, with the regimental command post established inland by evening. The 1st Battalion's precise movements that day are not separately recorded, but it would have shared in the same landing and advance that carried the regiment off the beach and into the fields beyond. Pfc Schlarp was wounded in this action and died of wounds on 06 June 1944.
