The Story
S/Sgt Charles Hoock died of wounds on 11 June 1944, serving with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. By the evening of 7 June 1944, the 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry had pushed forward beyond the villages of St. Honorine and Cobourg, reaching a position along the 725 easting by 2020 hours. The battalion's command post was established at St. Honorine as the unit continued its advance inland from the Normandy beachhead. Divisional records from this date track the battalion as a whole, without separating the movements of its individual rifle companies. S/Sgt Hoock was wounded in this action and died of wounds on 11 June 1944.
