The Story
Pfc Marshall Smithpeters died of wounds on 21 June 1944, serving with Company H, 2nd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment. On this date, the 116th Infantry, as part of the larger division effort, resumed its attack at 0400 hours, advancing on the left of the division line with supporting attachments. By the close of the day, the regiment had secured its designated objectives before dark. Records at this level do not break the action down to individual companies or detachments, so this account reflects the regiment's broader movements rather than the specific activities of any one element within it. Pfc Smithpeters was wounded in this action and died of wounds on 21 June 1944.
