The Story

Pfc Clifford Murray, Jr was killed in action on 15 June 1944, serving with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. On 15 June 1944, the 16th Infantry Regiment, of which the 3rd Battalion was a part, was operating in the vicinity of Livry and La Craux as it worked to link up with British forces to the north. By early morning the battalion had established contact with British troops near Livry, while a road block was set up at La Craux to help secure the area. Elsewhere along the regiment's line, Company A, which had been temporarily attached to another unit, was ordered to rejoin the regiment that afternoon, and by evening the regiment held contact with both American and British units on its flanks. These details reflect the battalion's general movements that day rather than a specific record of the company's own actions. Pfc Murray was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
