Joseph A Huzar

Pvt Joseph Huzar was killed in action on 08 June 1944, serving with HQ&HQ Co, 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment. On the 8th of June, 1st Battalion held and strengthened its center of resistance near Engranville while sending patrols out to the front and along both flanks, including help given to friendly troops still under pressure on the open right flank. That evening, Company B pushed west into Formigny, fighting through the town to clear it of German defenders, killing ten and capturing fifteen along with vehicles and stores before pulling back after midnight and leaving a single platoon to hold the position. At the same time, Company C worked toward Trevieres, clearing out snipers, capturing an important enemy supply dump south of Engranville, and taking ten more prisoners, while the battalion called in artillery fire on Trevieres and other targets in the area. It was a day of hard, steady fighting across the battalion's front, with the men of 1st Battalion pressing the advance on multiple sides at once. Pvt Huzar was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
