The Story
Pvt George Hornacek was killed in action on 08 June 1944, serving with HQ&HQ Co, 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. On 8 June 1944, the 3rd Battalion's headquarters company moved to the vicinity of Huppain, France, and had a new command post up and running by 1500 hours. The move came at a cost that day, with one enlisted man killed in action and two others wounded and evacuated for treatment. This period fell just two days after the D-Day landings, as the battalion continued pushing inland through Normandy and establishing forward positions to support ongoing operations. Pvt Hornacek was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
