Eugene L Sproull

Cpl Eugene Sproull was killed in action on 09 June 1944, serving with Company H, 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment. On 9 June 1944, the 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry, held in reserve near Mosles as the 1st and 3rd Battalions moved through its position around 1300 hours. The battalion then reverted to regimental reserve, and while other elements dealt with a bypassed enemy strongpoint, casualties in this period were reported as generally light apart from a shelling incident affecting a company command post, where tree bursts caused heavier losses than the shelling would otherwise have produced. The battalion continued forward in reserve for the remainder of the day without further enemy contact, bivouacking that night at Blay. Cpl Sproull was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
