The Story
1st Lt Gale Lapham was killed in action on 14 June 1944, serving with HQ&HQ Co, 2nd Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment. On 14 June 1944, 2nd Battalion held defensive positions in the Caumont sector, where enemy forces conducted probing actions against the line. These probes appeared aimed at locating weak points in the battalion's defenses rather than mounting a full assault.
