The Story
T/5 Fred Planty was killed in action on 07 June 1944, serving with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment. On 7 June 1944, the 2nd Battalion was ordered forward to cross the Aure River and take up positions on the high ground at the crossroads between Mosles and Tour-en-Bessin, relieving the 3rd Battalion in that sector. The crossing was accomplished against little resistance, and by day's end the battalion was instructed to hold its position through the night. Records at this level describe the battalion's movements as a whole rather than the specific actions of individual companies that day. T/5 Planty was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
