The Story
Pfc Milton Coppernoll was killed in action on 09 June 1944, serving with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment. On this day, the 2nd Battalion was operating along the right flank of the regiment's sector, advancing alongside the 3rd Battalion on the left while the 1st Battalion held in reserve. The battalion moved out at noon, and by early evening had pushed forward to positions south and southeast of Cottun. By 2000 hours, the battalion was continuing its advance toward its objective at La Commune. Pfc Coppernoll was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
