The Story

Pvt Francis Vishnosky was killed in action on 23 June 1944, serving with Battery B, 7th Field Artillery Battalion. On 23 June 1944, the 7th Field Artillery Battalion was among the units carried within a broader record covering the period from 20 to 30 June, during which the battalion held positions just south of Cormolain in continued direct support of the 16th Infantry. Its fires during this stretch were coordinated with those of the 5th Field Artillery Battalion, and at times two gun platoons from the 635th Tank Destroyer Battalion were attached to bolster indirect fire support. The position area came under some harassing enemy fire during this period, though no counterbattery fire was recorded, and the exact activities of this particular date cannot be distinguished within that broader block of days. Pvt Vishnosky was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
