The Story

Pvt Peter Halesey, Jr was killed in action on 16 June 1944, serving with Battery C, 32nd Field Artillery Battalion. On 16 June 1944, the 32nd Field Artillery Battalion remained in position in the vicinity of Cormolain, supporting the infantry as part of the ongoing effort in that sector. Battalion records for the day note that a small, coordinated enemy attack against the 1st and 2nd Battalions, 18th Infantry, was repulsed with heavy losses to the attackers. In carrying out this support, the battalion fired 35 missions, many of them harassing or unobserved fire, expending 410 rounds over the course of the day. Pvt Halesey was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
