The Story

T/5 Thurston Fogleman was killed in action on 25 June 1944, serving with Battery C, 32nd Field Artillery Battalion. On 25 June 1944, the 32nd Field Artillery Battalion was positioned in the vicinity of Cormolain when, at 1830 hours, enemy artillery began shelling the battalion's area, firing roughly 300 rounds in all. The bulk of that fire landed within C Battery's position, killing one man, wounding two others, and destroying a 105mm howitzer along with a .50 caliber machine gun. Despite the barrage, the battalion continued its firing schedule that day, carrying out 20 missions—mostly unobserved harassing fire—and expending 348 rounds of ammunition. T/5 Fogleman was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
