The Story
Pvt Floyd Peede was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion. On the afternoon of June 6, 1944, the battalion's Company B came ashore at Omaha Beach in support of Combat Team 18, establishing a command post at an exit road just off the beach around 1300. The landing was costly even before the men could move inland, with two jeeps and three 2½-ton trucks lost to the surf. By 1700 the company had pushed forward and dug in near Colleville-sur-Mer, having sustained casualties that day, including men missing in action and others wounded and evacuated. Pvt Peede was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
