The Story
T/5 William Terrance was killed in action on 08 June 1944, serving with HQ&HQ Det, 1st Medical Battalion. On 8 June 1944, D+2, the 1st Medical Battalion's Bristol Channel Force came ashore at Omaha Beach, having been held offshore until conditions allowed the landing. This element comprised the battalion's Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, the Division Medical Supply section, and the ambulance elements of Companies A and B, bringing critical medical support and transport capability onto the beachhead. Their arrival marked the point at which the battalion's full medical evacuation and supply chain began operating from French soil in support of the division's push inland. T/5 Terrance was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
