Robert J Fogg

Pvt Robert Fogg was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with Company A, 741st Tank Battalion. On the morning of June 6, 1944, Company A came ashore at Omaha Beach along the boundary of Easy Red and Fox Green, one of the first armored units to touch the sand under heavy German fire. Landing craft carrying the company's tanks arrived in staggered waves between roughly 0625 and 0650 hours, and the crews immediately went into action against pillboxes, gun emplacements, and mortar positions covering the beach exits. Several tanks were struck by mines, anti-tank rounds, or artillery fire and had to be abandoned as the incoming tide flooded their hulls, even as their crews kept firing and worked alongside infantry from the 16th Infantry Regiment to help clear the way off the beach. By day's end the company had suffered heavy losses in men and machines, but its tanks had directly supported the capture of enemy strongpoints and dozens of prisoners in the fighting around the Easy-1 and Easy-3 exits. Pvt Fogg was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
