T/5 Marvin Beals was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with Battery B, 62nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. On the morning of June 6, 1944, the battery came ashore near St. Laurent-sur-Mer as part of the 62nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion's landing on Omaha Beach. Once ashore, it went into action almost immediately, firing supporting missions for the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, as that unit pushed inland against German defenses. The chaos of the landing had scattered the battalion's elements along the coast, and the group that came ashore at St. Laurent, including this battery, would not reestablish contact with the rest of the battalion near Colleville until the following morning.
