Everard E Russell

T/5 Everard Russell was killed in action on 08 June 1944, serving with Company C, 348th Engineer Combat Battalion. On 8 June 1944, D+2 at Omaha Beach, the 348th Engineer Combat Battalion's Beach Group took up its assigned duties in the Exit E-3 sector, working to unload incoming vessels and move supplies into the beach dumps. The battalion command post operated out of a captured dugout near the exit as the unit carried out this work alongside its other assigned tasks in support of the forces pushing inland. The effort that day was part of the larger, continuous job of keeping men, equipment, and materiel flowing off the beach in the critical days following the invasion.
