Pvt Louis Moore was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with 4142nd Quartermaster Service Company. On 6 June 1944, the 4142nd Quartermaster Service Company began its move onto French soil as part of the Normandy invasion, with its four LCT boat teams departing the rendezvous area off the coast on schedule. One of these craft, LCT-626, reached the shore first, beaching at 1300 hours near Colleville-sur-Mer in the Fox Red sector of Omaha Beach and marking the company's initial foothold on the beachhead. Another of the company's craft, LCT-638, suffered a collision with another vessel shortly after midnight, forcing the men aboard to abandon ship and transfer briefly to a sister landing craft before returning once temporary repairs allowed LCT-638 to come alongside again. Amid air raids that continued into the following day, the company's remaining boats were held offshore and ordered back out to sea to await further orders, so that their actual landings were not completed until 7 June. Pvt Moore was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
