Cpl Teddy Wojtczak was killed in action on 06 June 1944, serving with Company C, 336th Engineer Combat Battalion. On D-Day, the 336th Engineer Combat Battalion came ashore on Omaha Beach attached to the 348th Engineer Combat Battalion in support of the 18th Infantry Regiment, with roughly 300 men from Company A, part of Company B, Company C, the medical detachment, and battalion headquarters landing between about 12:30 and 4:00 in the afternoon by landing craft and Rhino ferries. They came in some 2,000 to 3,000 yards from their intended sector and had to move along the fire-swept beach to reach their assigned area near Fox Green and Fox Red. By 8:30 that evening, the battalion had cleared an alternate exit road inland, allowing twenty tanks to pass through and opening the route to the ammunition and supply traffic that would follow. Cpl Wojtczak was killed in action that day; the report does not specify the individual circumstances.
