Pvt Nelson Alexander, Jr was killed in action on 08 June 1944, serving with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment. By the next morning the line had been straightened, with G, F, and E Companies positioned in order from left to right, the enemy holding roughly 300 yards to their front. Division and regimental commanders visited the battalion command post that day as a battalion of the 26th Combat Team passed nearby on the Bayeux road.
